Trash Island is a down to earth, friendly coffee shop in the heart of Bedstuy. Their aim was to be the coffee shop in the neighborhood you could go to and experience a warm, laid-back time with your friends. And if your buds couldn’t make it, you could probably make some new ones.

I designed the menu and directed imagery with one piece of inspiration- make it feel like “Dive in, the water’s fine!” They wanted it to feel as far away from the ever-popular, subway-tiled, stuffy coffee shop as possible.

We captured photos of the space and some of their offerings in the same spirit. Spilt milk, Playboy magazines, eating with your hands and letting your feet dangle with your buds while you cure your hangover with their signature “T.I. Latte” of Coca-Cola and espresso on ice. The owners invited their friends to join so the photos could be taken with the people who regularly fill the space.

The images were used on their website and in social media posts to introduce themselves to the neighborhood and keep in touch about new offerings and events.
