A Writer and a Woodworker Re-build Their Dream Space

Katie and Camden purchased this Brownstone from developers only to have to replace just about everything. Within the first year, they replaced the water proofing materials between the exterior and interior walls, the plumbing in both the main and rental unit and their ceiling caved in above their dining room table. Quite the first home experience! Needless to say, their #1 piece of advice for new home buyers is to buy a home that has actually been lived in for at least two years. Thankfully, with their passion for design and unwavering commitment to creating the home of their dreams, they figured it all out and did so beautifully.

The intention for this shoot was to document all they had created and submit for a feature in Domino Magazine. Kate’s keen design sense and Camden’s talent in woodworking, welding and handiwork made it possible for them to not only fix what needed repair, but also design and build several pieces of furniture you’ll see in the space. My direction was to showcase the details of their designs and convey the experience of really being in their space. We set up several scenes where they interacted with the home and one another to convey the calming, warm, Parisian-inspired space in all its glory.
